The Police said the raid was carried out from Friday 11.00 p.m. to Saturday 4.00 a.m. and about 12,000 Police officers participated in the raid.
They said at least 110 convicted criminals and 109 who wanted for various criminal activities were among the arrested.Of them 567 had arrest warrant on them.
“Of them 87 were wanted for engaging in various crimes and 71 were arrested for possession of drugs,” Police spokesman DIG Priyantha Jayakody said.
He said that 307 persons were arrested in connection with major traffic violations and 76 were arrested for driving under influence on liquor.
DIG Jayakody said that it was one of largest raid carried out by the Sri Lanka Police recently, which covered the entire country at the same time.
The raid was carried out under the direction of the Senior DIGs in each Provinces of the country under the direct guidance of IGP Pujith Jayasundara.(Darshana Sanjeewa)
