Customs find Rs.40Mn worth gold gel from passenger’s underwear

Colombo, May 9 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lankan passenger who tried to smuggle in gold gel worth of Rs.40 million, which had been concealed in his undergarment was nabbed by the Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning.

Officials of the Customs Narcotic Control Unit stationed at the BIA Arrival Terminal searched a passenger on suspicion and found the contraband hidden in his underwear and shoes.

Customs Spokesperson Additional Director General Seevali Arukgoda said three packages contained 1, 975 grams (1.9Kg).

The suspect, who is aged 25 years has come from Dubai and had arrived in the country on Emirates flight EK 650. He was detained for further inquiries.
