Customs seize Rs.1.2Mn worth Kush that came in domestic heaters at cargo village

A consignment of cannabis variety Kush worth Rs.1.2 million that came concealed in domestic heaters at the Bandaranaike International Airport Air Cargo Village was seized by Sri Lanka Customs this afternoon. 

Customs Narcotic Control Unit officials on suspicion searched a stock of domestic heaters, which had been cleared by a courier agent and found the drugs hidden within.

The consignment had come from Canada addressed to a local consignee in Piliyandala and contained 1, 883 grams of Kush, Customs Spokesperson Additional Director General Seevali Arukgoda said.

They were stored in nine parcels, which were concealed in six heaters. A gram of Kush has a street value of between Rs.6, 000 to 7, 000 presently.

The suspect along with the drugs was to be handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) for further investigations.
