Colombo, July 31 (Daily Mirror) - Hot on the heels of the Central Committee of the SLFP expressing support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the presidential election, MP Dayasiri Jayasekara, who claims to be the SLFP’s legitimate General Secretary categorically rejected the statement.
Taking to ‘X’, MP Jayasekara said, “Minister Nimal Siripala, who has forcibly held the SLFP, has announced the Party’s ‘support’ for President Wickremesinghe. As the General Secretary of the party recognized by court, I categorically reject this statement, as any decision needs to be taken at the Central Committee.”
“These individuals have no legal right to represent the stance of the SLFP, and so, as the legitimate Secretary of the party, I condemn these efforts to align the party with the Government,” he added.
The President’s Media Division announced today that the Central Committee of the SLFP had met with President Ranil Wickremesinghe and expressed their support for his victory in the forthcoming presidential election.
