Defence Ministry shifted to Defence Headquarters Complex

The Defence Ministry was shifted to the newly constructed Defence Headquarters Complex in Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte today (May 18).

At the event organized to coincide the 12th anniversary of the Victory Day over terrorism, Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) declared open the new building complex amidst the blessings of the Ven. Maha Sanga.

This new state-of-the-art complex built with military expertise will house all the sections of the Defence Ministry those were previously situated in different locations.

Army headquarters was moved to the Defence Headquarters Complex a few years ago and the Headquarters of the Air Force and Navy will also be housed in future, the ministry said.

Defence Ministry’s Seva Vanitha Unit Chairperson Chithrani Gunaratne, Foreign Ministry Secretary Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage (Retd), Public Security Ministry Secretary Maj. Gen. Jagath Alwis (Retd), Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, IGP Chandana Wickramaratne, Director General of Civil Security Department Maj. Gen. Nandana Senadeera (Retd), KDU Vice Chancellor Maj. Gen. Milinda Peiris, Sri Lanka Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake and a selected number of ministry staffers were present at the event held under the healthcare guidelines.
