Diana Gamage says ready for another legal battle

In the aftermath of Osala Hearth filing a petition asking the Appeal Court to declare that State Minister Diana Gamage is not qualified to hold an MP's post, she is to file an appeal before the Supreme Court against the verdict given by the judiciary earlier. Ms. Gamage said she is ready to face another legal battle. 

The three-judge bench gave a divided verdict on State Minister Gamage, where two Members declared she is qualified to hold a seat in Parliament while one judge said she should be disqualified. 

Judge Marikar who claimed Gamage does not qualify to hold a parliamentary seat referred to the veddict by the judiciary on State Minister Geetha Kumarasinghe, where it was declared that the actress turned politician is not qualified to hold a seat since she was a Swiss citizen prior to 2020.

"I am usually ready to face anything," Ms. Gamage told the Daily Mirror. 

"I accept the virdict given by the Appeal Court with gratitude and it shows that the judiciary is independent," she added. (Yohan Perera)
