Diana Gamage, two MPs tarnished dignity of Parliament: Committee reveals

COLOMBO (Daily Mirror)- The initial investigations into the alleged assault on State Minister Diana Gamage at the Parliament lobby revealed that all three MPs, namely Diana Gamage, Sujith Sanjaya Perera and Rohana Bandara, who were involved in the incident, had acted while tarnishing the dignity of Parliament, Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapaksha said today.

The five-member committee appointed to probe the alleged assault on State Minister Diana Gamage met in Parliament today.

The Committee headed by Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapaksa is scheduled to meet on November 9 and compile the final report to be handed over to the Speaker.

MPs Diana Gamage, Sujith Sanjaya Perera and Rohana Bandara gave statements before the Committee which was attended by MPs Gayantha Karunathilaka, Imtiaz Bakeer Markar and Minister Ramesh Pathirana.

MP Piyal Nishanatha who is a key witness to the incident was unable to attend the meeting due to an unavoidable circumstance and was asked to be present before the committee on the next sitting.
