Discussions are in progress to provide concession on electricity bills to low income groups in the revised budget, to be presented at the end of this month, Leader of the House Susil Premajayantha said today.
He told Parliament that the revised budget was planning to be included in the order paper for August 30, 31 and September 1 and 2.
Responding to a question raised by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, he said one-day debate was scheduled for August 29 on electricity tariff hike.
The Opposition Leader said people are finding it hard to bear the electricity tariff hike and added that low income families, industrialists and tourism sector were badly affected by the tariff hike.
He requested the government to reconsider the tariff hike and provide concessions to the people in distress.
Minister Premajayantha said discussions are held to provide concessions to groups which require such concessions. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
