Displaying weight, price of a loaf of bread made mandatory

Colombo, Feb. 2 (Daily Mirror)- The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has taken steps to issue an extraordinary gazette notification, making it mandatory for sellers to display the proper weight and price for bread, which is a bakery-related product.

The gazette was issued according to its chairman, Shantha Niriella and the announcement is for the safety of the consumers.

According to the gazette, it has been made mandatory for those engaged in the preparation, packaging, storage and wholesale as well as retailing bread to ensure that the weight of the bread displayed for sale contains the specified weight and to clearly display the weight of the bread displayed for sale.

The standard weight of a loaf of bread is 450 grams and the standard weight of a half loaf of bread is 225 grams.
