SLPP Parliamentarian Premanath C. Dolawatte said today he had requested President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to cancel the gazette notification on the acquisition of land belonging to the D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo and give it back to the school.
He told Parliament that he would make a request in writing and table the letter pertaining to the request in the House today.
The MP said he was told by the President when inquired that the land was acquired subsequent to a request.
He said the acquisition of the land has been suspended at the moment and said the gazette notification should be annulled to confirm it.
The MP noted in the letter that even though the President of the Past Pupils’ Association, Principal and School Development Society had issued a joint written request saying that the school needed the proposed development project, therefore it has been decided unanimously at a special general meeting of the Past Pupils’ Association that the project was not required by the college.
He said he, as a past pupil of the school, was making a request to the President to cancel the gazette issued on May 19, 2021 and hand over the land to the school.
