Colombo, October 05 (Daily Mirror)- The Election Commission has halted the unlawful appointment of a new Managing Director to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) by the new government.

Despite the current Managing Director Prabath Malavige having nearly ten years of service remaining, the new Ministry of Ports and Aviation has attempted to replace him.

The matter has been brought to the notice of the Election Commission.

The Commission, in a letter to the Ministry secretary, sought a report in this regard and ordered to suspend the new appointment.

The Election Commission has ordered the Ministry secretary not only to reinstate the current Managing Director but also to refrain from making any such changes until after the parliamentary elections. The Commission emphasised the importance of adhering to election laws, which prohibit significant administrative changes during an election period.
