Epidemiology Unit to conduct separate study on antibody response after vaccination: Prof. Jayasumana

The Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry is planning to conduct a separate research on antibody response after vaccination against Covid-19, apart from the research conducted by the Sri Jayewardenepura University on the matter, State Minister Channa Jayasumana told Parliament today.

He told Parliament that the Department of Immunology and Molecular Sciences of the Sri Jayawardenepura University headed by Prof. Neelika Malavige and Dr. Chandima Jeewandara were conducting research on the efficacy and antibidy response after vaccination against Covid-19 at present.

Responding to a question raised by government MP Mohammed Muzammil, the Minister said steps were being taken to conduct a separate study by the epidemiology unit to ascertain the antibody formation after vaccination and duration of effective antibody levels after vaccination.

Responding to another question on vaccination against Covid-19 in Sri Lanka, the Minister said 77.2% of the total population has received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine and 64.8% was fully vaccinated by now while 33.5% has recieved the booster dose as well. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
