Ex-Provincial councillor arrested for allegedly aiding gunmen in ’Club Wasantha’ murder

Colombo, August 29 (Daily Mirror)-  A former Western Provincial Councillor has been arrested for allegedly aiding the second gunman and the car driver involved in the murder of two individuals, including businessman Surendra Wasantha Perera, also known as 'Club Wasantha'.

The Panadura Police Divisional Crimes Detective Bureau arrested the second gunman and the car driver yesterday. The suspects, aged 29 and 32, are residents of Nagoda and Ahugalla, respectively. 

Acting on information from the Panadura SSP that the suspects were staying in the Pinwatta area of Panadura, a team of officers, including a Chief Inspector, apprehended them at the Pinwatta bus stop.

Investigations have revealed that the suspects had switched from a car to a van and travelled from Kadawata to Matara via the Southern Expressway following the shooting.

The suspects to be handed over to the Athurugiriya Police for further investigations.

Last week, the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) arrested one of the suspected gunmen involved in the 'Club Wasantha' killing on Friday (23) in the Athurugiriya area.
