Following a tip-off, an elderly man and his son were taken into STF custody along with a stock of illegal drugs worth of Rs.4 million when their house was raided at Wolfendhal Street in Colombo.

The STF said the suspects identified as Abdul Carder Mohamed Ilmudeen and Mohamed Ilmudeen Mohamed Fashadeen were residents in Wolfendhal Street.

The STF recovered Tramadol and several illegal drugs manufactured in Pakistan and prohibited for sale in Sri Lanka. However, investigations revealed such drugs have been distributed to shops countrywide.

“Under interrogation, two detainees who were previously nabbed with heroin during a raid at Mahawila Garden in Dematagoda provided information that led to the arrest of the suspects. The former duo was arrested at a house in close proximity to the residence of spice trader Mohamed Ibrahim who was taken into custody after both his sons were found to have been among those who carried out the suicide bombings in Colombo on Easter Sunday,” the STF said.

Further investigations are being conducted to determine whether the suspects have any involvement with extremist organisations. They were handed over to the police. (Darshana Sanjeewa)
