The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has called for a report from the Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province about the actions of Keselwatta Police for filing a B report before Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court against a group of lawyers.
The Keselwatta Police filed a B report against a group of lawyers who organised a protest on January 18, condemning the Attorney General's alleged interference with the judiciary.
According to the B report, Keselwatta police alleged that a group of lawyers including Senior Counsel Gunaratne Wanninayake, Nuwan Bopage and Senaka Perera had organised a protest by violating Election Laws and provisions of National Thoroughfares Act.
Accordingly, police said the IGP has called for a report from Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon for filing the B report without the knowledge of the IGP C.D. Wickramaratne or the Legal Division of the Police Headquarters.
The lawyers organised this protest condemning Attorney General's alleged attempts to prevent Colombo Additional Magistrate Tharanga Mahawatte from hearing the case filed against Convener of Inter University Students' Federation (IUSF) Wasantha Mudalige and Ven. Galwewa Siridhamma Thera. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
