First Omicron patient identified in Sri Lanka

The first patient carrying the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 has been identified in Sri Lanka, the Health Ministry said today.

The new variant has been identified in a Sri Lankan citizen who had recently returned from a South Africa.

The Daily Mirror learns that he had arrived in Sri Lanka a few days ago and had been detected in the gene sequencing.

The Health Ministry has urged people not to panic as all preventive measures were being taken to prevent a spread. (JAMILA HUSAIN)
