An agreement was signed with the Coconut Development Authority (CDA) to allow consumers to buy coconuts through Lanka Sathosa outlets at a fixed price of Rs. 75 per nut throughout the year, Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardana said.

After signing the agreement with the CDA, the objective of this program is to provide coconuts to consumers at a lower price due to the increase in the price of coconuts.

He said consumers would be able to purchase five nuts as the sale is based on retail and not wholesale.

Those who are unable to buy coconuts can buy export quality coconut milk instead, amounting to the price of two coconuts at Rs.150, he said. Minister Gunawardana stated if coconut prices crash in the market, the savings will be passed on to the consumers through Sathosa. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
