Colombo ,October 24 (Daily Mirror) -The Irrigation Department has issued a flood warning for several low-lying areas of the Nilwala Ganga river basin, effective till October 26.
The warning specifically targets low-lying areas within the Pasgoda, Kotapola, Pitabeddara, Akuressa, Athuraliya, Malimbada, Thihagoda, Kamburupitiya, Matara and Devinuwara Divisional Secretariat Divisions.
Accordingly, significant rainfall has been recorded in the majority of the upstream and middle catchment areas of the Nilwala Ganga basin as of 1:00 a.m. today.
Meanwhile, residents in the affected areas and motorists travelling through these areas are strongly advised to remain vigilant.
Additionally, Disaster Management Authorities are encouraged to implement appropriate precautionary measures to ensure public safety.
