Parliamentarian and former Chief Minister of Uva Province Chamara Dassanayake who stood charged with forcibly kneeling down before him a principal of a government school, was yesterday acquitted by the Badulla Magistrate Chaminda Karunadewa.
The Magistrate held that the accused would be acquitted in pursuance of the settlement arrived at the Conciliation Board with the consensus of the parties to the case. The magistrate had referred the case to the Conciliation Board on the instructions of the Attorney General.
Badulla Police that investigated the complaint made by the Principal of Badulla Tamil Girls’ Maha Vidyalaya Bhavani Raghunathan had filed action.
Attorneys-at-Law Sujeewa Jayasinghe, Heminda Dayawansa and Sarath Weerasinghe appeared for the suspect.(Palitha Ariyawansa)
