Four bowsers with more than 17,000 litres of fuel, parked inside the premises of a vehicle service centre at Bopitiya in Pamunugama were taken into the custody today, police said.
They said these bowsers were owned by an individual who operate two licensed petrol stations in Wattala and Negombo areas.
The fuel bowsers were found following a tip off received by the Pamunugama Police.
Police said the licenses of fuel stations were cancelled.
Two bowsers containing diesel, the other with petrol and another carrying kerosene were among the siezed.
The fuel levels of these vehicles were measured by a local administrative officer of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and accordingly there were 8,800 liters of diesel, 4,000 liters of petrol and 5,000 liters of kerosene.
The case will be filed in the Welisara Magistrate's Court tomorrow and the suspect has been summoned to appear in court on that day, police said. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
