The price of petrol would have ranged from Rs. 130 to Rs. 140 currently, had the fuel pricing formula been in force, UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene said yesterday.
“Those who jeered at the pricing formula at that time have accepted it now ,” Mr. Wijewarden et old some party activists during a meeting.
“The price of petrol is Rs. 171 today,” he noted.
“The Government promised to set up a fuel price stabilisation fund to keep the prices stable. We would like to question as to what had become of this fund,” he added.
Mr. Wijewardene said the price of chillies have gone up to Rs. 1000 while the average price of other vegetables is Rs. 400 a kilo. “Government should be handed over to a person who has the ability to resolve various crises within a nation,” he also said. (YOHAN PERERA)
