Its president, Dr. Rukshan Bellana, said that post-marketing surveillance should be conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of inhalation medicines, including bronchodilator combinations with steroids and standalone bronchodilators.
He also requested that an investigation be carried out to determine whether the dosage delivered through inhalers meets the required standards.
Over the past couple of years, several substandard medicinal products have been registered and imported into Sri Lanka.
However, it is now the responsibility of the NMRA to carry out vigilant post-marketing surveillance, particularly concerning inhalers used for asthma and other respiratory diseases, he said.
He raised this issue in response to complaints from doctors about the quality and safety of imported inhalation medicinal products.
