Garbage collection in some parts of the Colombo City has been halted once again due to fuel scarcity, a senior member of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Mahendra de Silva told the Daily Mirror today.
De Silva who is a member of CMC standing Committee on solid waste management said garbage collection in Gangarama area, Narahenpita, Borella and Dematagoda areas have come to a standstill as the garbage collection trucks have run out of fuel.
“The garbage collection is done by the CMC in these areas unlike the other areas where contract is given to private entities for the disposal of solid waste. This private contractor had managed to get enough fuel in hand for the trucks,” he said.
This is the second time during the garbage collection in the Colombo City is being affected due to the fuel issue. It was affected during the first week of March as well. (Yohan Perera)
