Geminids meteor shower visible in Sri Lanka on Dec 14

Colombo, December 12 (Daily Mirror) - The Geminids Meteor shower will be visibe to Sri Lanka at its peak on December 14, the Arthur C. Clarke Centre said.

Geminids is annually active in December and considered to be one of the most spectacular meteor showers of the year.

Geminids originate from asteroid 3200 Phaethon. When the Earth passes through the debris of the asteroid they collide with the Earth's atmosphere and create Geminids meteors.

Tbe meteors appear to emerge from the constellation Gemini and is visible when looking at the Gemini constellation in the North-eastern sky after 9.00 pm on December 14. 

Furthermore, the visibility of this meteor shower may be somewhat limited due to the light of the full moon on December 14.
