Government approves purchase of locally made medicines

The government has decided to purchase locally produced medicines and medical supplies for a one-year period, following approval at the Cabinet meeting held on October 14, 2024.  

The Ministry of Health and Mass Media has prepared four lists of medicines that will be supplied by the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC), local manufacturers partnered with SPC through joint ventures, local manufacturers with "easy purchase" agreements with the Ministry of Health, and newly selected local manufacturers that do not currently have agreements.  

Based on recommendations from the Standing Procurement Committee, the Cabinet has approved the proposal by the Minister of Health and Mass Media to award procurement contracts.

Accordingly, ahe SPC will supply 42 types of medicines for a cost of Rs. 5,398.83 million while local manufacturers in joint ventures with SPC will supply 131 types of medicines for Rs. 16,611.42 million. Further, producers with "easy purchase" agreements will supply 36 types of medicines for Rs. 9,022.10 million while 24 newly selected local producers will supply 130 types of medicines for Rs. 13,374.65 million.
