The government has been able to successfully control the spread of dengue where the number of high-risk areas has been reduced to 13 from 67, State Minister of Health Dr. Seetha Arambepola said today.

She told Parliament that the number of patients reported per day with dengue has now reduced to 300 cases from 900 cases that were reported daily in June this year.

Speaking during the debate on the no-confidence motion on Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, the State Minister said the government has been able to successfully control the spread as the authorities responded positively to the warnings by various people over an alarming situation in the country.

“We have been able to control the spread as we reacted positively to the warnings by various parties without refuting them as allegations. We must listen to the criticism and act accordingly instead of refuting them as allegations,” she said.

She said the criticism and allegations of MPs regarding the health sector issues must be taken positively and necessary action taken to mitigate the shortcomings.(Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
