Outdoor activities which were absent for Vesak this year are to be allowed for Poson, Prime Minister’s Office said today.
This decision has been made at a meeting which Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had together with a group of senior monks and laypersons at 'Temple Trees' this afternoon.
The Prime Minister has assured that Poson will be held in a grand scale this year.
It was revealed in this meeting that a total of one million people are expected in to visit various places during Poson festival including Anurdhapura where main celebrations will be held.
It has been revealed in this meeting that pandols will be allowed for Poson this year while there will be Poson celebration zones. National Youth Council had organized a Poson Zone in Maharagama. All night pirith chanting ceremonies are to be held in all district and provincial secretariat offices, while there will be a sil campaign at Temple Trees on June 14, 2019.
Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said there will be preaching and sil campaigns in schools as well.
It was decided that maximum security will be provided in all parts of the country during the Poson festival.
The Chief Sanganayaka of Japan Venerable Palpola Vipassi Thera, Chief Incumbent of Nugegoda Nalandarama Venerable Thinyawala Palitha Thera, Chief incumbent of Lankarama Totalanga Venerable Mathurata Dhammalankara Thera , Chief Incumbant of Sedawatte Purana Vihara Venerable Abanpola Gnanaloka Thera, Ministers of Agriculture fisheries and Livestock development P Harrison, Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and Minister of Public Administration Vajira Abeywardana and Youth council President Eranga Weliangage, Prime Minister’s secretary Saman Ekanayake and Additional Secretery Saman Attaudahetti also participated in the meeting.
