COLOMBO (Daily Mirror)- Several Opposition Members of Parliament have embarked on an endeavour to hand over a motion to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana calling for the appointment of a select committee to probe the cricket crisis, the Daily Mirror learns.

While commenting on the matter, MP Dayasiri Jayasekera told the Daily Mirror that around ten members have already signed the motion. Members of the Uttara Lanka Sahabaga led by Wimal Weerawansa and the group led by MP Dullas Alaheppurama are backing the motion, according to him.

MP Jayaskera refuted the claim by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa that a select committee could be an effort to sweep the issue under the carpet.

“That is a foolish idea on the part of the opposition leader,” Jayasekera said.

Leader of the House Prasanna Ranatunga told Parliament on Saturday that a select committee will be welcomed by the government as well, responding to which Premadasa said such a move will sweep the issue under the carpet.
