HRCSL urges police to ensure impartiality during election period

Colombo, August 5 (Daily Mirror) - The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) stressed the importance of the responsibility of the Sri Lanka Police and the State officials to provide equal protection of the law devoid of any form of bias or discrimination as prescribed in Article 12 of the Constitution of Sri Lanka.

The HRCSL also announced that it will accept complaints regarding violations of election laws by police and other government officials in line with the Presidential Election.

Complaints can be submitted via telephone at 0767914696 or Fax at 0112505566, according to a spokesman for the Commission.

This initiative aims to ensure free and fair elections.

Furthermore, the HRCSL said specialised officers had also been appointed at the Head Office and all the Regional Offices of the HRCSL, to look into the alleged human rights violations forthwith. Recently, the HRCSL has issued special guidelines to the Sri Lanka Police and State officials reiterating their obligations to execute their duties and responsibilities with full respect to the Constitution of Sri Lanka.
