Harin suspends registration of five national sports associations

Colombo, Dec 27 (Daily Mirror) - Through an extraordinary gazette notification, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Harin Fernando has temporarily suspended the registration of five national sports associations in Sri Lanka. 

The decision was made under the authority vested in him by Sections 32 and 33 of the Sports Law, No. 25 of 1973 and its amendments.

Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Archery Association, Sri Lanka Kabaddi Federation, Sri Lanka Wrestling Federation, Sri Lanka Bridge Federation and the Sri Lanka Roller Skating Association have been temporarily suspended.

Minister Harin Fernando has appointed Professor (Rear Admiral) Shemal Fernando, the Director General of the Department of Sports Development, as the competent authority to oversee the administrative and other necessary activities of the suspended sports associations. 

This move aims to ensure a smooth transition during the suspension period, which will be in effect from December 21, 2023.

Professor Shemal Fernando's responsibilities include calling and conducting relevant elections within the National Associations/Federations, ensuring the continued operation of administrative functions, and carrying out other duties necessary for the effective functioning of these sports organizations.
