The Health Ministry of Sri Lanka has clarified the reports circulating on social media regarding the detection of two Nipah virus cases in the country.
According to these social media reports, two children are currently receiving treatment for the Nipah virus at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital (LRH) in Sri Lanka.
In response, LRH Director Dr. G Wijesuriya, speaking to the Daily Mirror, stated that Sri Lanka has not reported any cases of Nipah virus so far.
He emphasized that people should not be alarmed or panic due to these false reports.
Dr. Wijesuriya further assured that Sri Lanka remains vigilant and fully prepared to handle any potential outbreak.
In light of this situation, he urged the public to exercise caution and verify information before accepting it as accurate, especially when it comes to social media posts.
The fear of the Nipah virus has been sparked by the detection of a significant number of Nipah cases in the Indian state of Kerala.
