The trade union action launched by 15 unions including Public Health Inspectors Union will continue as talks held with relevant officials failed to break the logjam.
PHI Union Head Upul Rohana said they had been compelled to continue the strike action as the authorities failed to mete their grievances.
“We will be having a discussion this evening with all trade union representatives to discuss further course of action,” he added.
Moreover, Ravi Kumudesh from Joint Council for Professions of Supplementary Medicine said it seemed that the Health Minister is unable to address the issue.
“The Health Minister appears to be influenced by some forces. That’s why we urge the President and Prime Minister to intervene into the matter and grant us satisfactory solutions,” he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr Hemantha Herath warned that the trade union action would definitely drag the situation to a serious level if they didn’t immediately decide to call off the strike.
“This is not a good time to engage in strike actions and fight for their demands. This is a time where we all should work in collaboration. Otherwise, the virus will determine our fate” he pointed out.
Joint Council of Professions Supplementary to Medicine, Public Health Inspectors Union (PHIU) and other affiliated trade unions decided to resort to trade union action to show displeasure over the Government’ decision to fulfil demands in favour of Public Services United Nurses Union ignoring other 14 affiliated trade unions.
