As per the latest report, 12 districts, including those in the Northern, North-Central and Eastern Provinces, as well as the Kurunegala and Moneragala districts, have been identified as areas experiencing extreme heat caution levels.
It is projected that the temperature, reaching caution levels, will rise in 10 districts, including the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern Provinces, as well as the Puttalam and Matale districts.
However, the districts of Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Badulla are reported to have normal temperatures ranging between 27 and 38 degrees Celsius.
The Department announced that the heat index forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature, and this is the condition that is felt on the human body.
Therefore, individuals involved in outdoor activities and work sites are urged to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in shaded areas whenever possible.
It is important never to leave children unattended and to check on the elderly and sick regularly, while also limiting strenuous outdoor activities. Additionally, wearing lightweight, white or light-colored clothing is strongly advised.
