The Higher Education Ministry is to initiate a dialogue with former Eastern Province Governor M.L.A.M. Hizbullah on the future of the controversial Batticaloa campus started by him as an investment project, Daily Mirror learns.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa instructed the higher education authorities to discuss what should be done regarding this university.
Accordingly, the Ministry will hold talks with Mr. Hizbullah in the future.
The university, which is commonly called ‘Batticaloa Sharia campus’, was in the centre of controversy in recent times. There were calls for the acquisition of it by the government to be developed as a state university. (Kelum Bandara)
