The prevailing hot weather condition in several areas in the Island would continue until mid-September, Director General of the Department of Meteorology Athula Karunanayake said.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, he said the month of August is generally considered as a dry month and added the condition would subside with the onset of the Inter monsoonal rain.
He said although there was a slight increase in the temperature, it had not yet reached the adverse level.
“There may also be minor spells of showers in Uva and East. However, it would take another few days for the prevailing hot weather to subside,” Mr. Karunanayake said.
“We are monitoring the prevailing climate changes and will take prompt measures to inform people on any adverse situation by issuing heat weather advisory,” he added.
He said the temperature level of several areas had slightly increased. People living in the coastal areas, North and East would feel the weather is hotter than those who are living elsewhere.
Moreover, the maximum temperature of 37°c was reported from Polonnaruwa yesterday. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
