Whilst stating that representatives of donor agencies and those from.foreign missions have informed him that the Sri Lankan government had sought their assistance to get out of the exchange rate crisis, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday said he had told them to go ahead and assist Sri Lanka.
"Mr. Premadasa who was speaking at a function he participated at Lunawa Hospital to donate medical equipment in memory of the late musician Sunil Perera, said many donor agencies and foreign missions in Colombo had informed him that the Sri Lankan government had sought assistance from them. "I have told those foreign missions and donor agencies to go ahead and help our nation," Mr. Premadasa said.
"My suggestion is that everyone should contribute to the nation at this difficult time. We want to set an example to everyone by playing an active role in developing the nation by giving donations. We make these donations through personal contribution of MPs and other well wishers," he said.
Taking a swipe on the fuel price hike, Mr. Premadasa said one cannot understand how the fuel prices in Sri Lanka were increased at a time when global prices have gone down. (Yohan Perera)
