IUSF protest: Court orders protesters out of Colombo

The Fort Magistrate has issued an order preventing a group of protesters including the Convenor of the Inter-University Students Federation (IUSF) Wasantha Mudalige from engaging in protest or demonstration in several areas in Colombo causing inconvenience to the public and motorists from 11.00 am till 10.00 pm today.

It was reported that the IUSF is planning to stage a massive demonstration in Colombo today.

The OICs of the Fort, Slave Island and Kollupitiya Police Stations informed the Fort Magistrate that a group of protesters planned to hold a protest demonstration in Kollupitiya, Slave Island and Fort Police areas in the hopes of entering the President's Office and several other buildings. Accordingly, the Police requested the Magistrate to issue an order preventing the protest march.

The Magistrate issued an order preventing protesters from entering the President's Office, President's House, Finance Ministry and Galle Face Green area.

They were also prevented from damaging public property and engaging in any act which could lead to violence, police said.
