India pledges support to SL to combat Jihadi terrorism

Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Taranjit Singh Sandhu said today they would offer India’s fullest support to Sri Lanka in dealing with the common threat of Jihadi terrorism.

The envoy gave this assurance when he met with Mahanayake Theras. He also discussed the prevailing security situation with the prelates.

The High Commissioner paid respects at Sri Dalada Maligawa and received the blessings of the Most Venerable Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatu Chapter and the Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter in Kandy.

He conveyed greetings on the auspicious occasion of Vesak to the Most Venerable Mahanayake Theras and recalled the visit of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to Sri Lanka for the International Vesak Day celebration in 2017 and the exposition of the sacred Sarnath Relics in Sri Lanka in 2018.

Both the Mahanayake Theras deeply appreciated India’s unconditional and strong support for Sri Lanka including in the security sphere.

Furthermore, the envoy reviewed the progress of the Kandyan Dancing School being constructed with India’s assistance of some Rs.150 million at the Sri Lanka International Buddhist Academy (SIBA) campus in Pallekele, Kandy.
