In a coordinated operation between the Indian Navy and the Sri Lanka Navy, two Sri Lankan-flagged fishing vessels were intercepted and seized with 500 kg of narcotics (Crystal Meth) in the Indian Ocean.
According to a spokesperson from the Indian Navy, the operation was initiated after receiving credible intelligence from the Sri Lanka Navy about potential narcotics smuggling by these vessels.
Acting swiftly, the Indian Navy launched a comprehensive surveillance effort using aerial assets, working closely with Sri Lankan authorities to track the movements of the suspected boats. On November 24 and 25, both vessels were successfully boarded by Indian Navy personnel, leading to the seizure of approximately 500 kilograms of Crystal Meth.
The two vessels, along with their crew and the seized narcotics, are being handed over to Sri Lankan authorities for further legal action.
