Indian contingent arrives in Sri Lanka for ’Mithrashakthi’ exercise

Mattala, August 13 (Daily Mirror) - An Indian Army contingent participating in the annual joint military exercise 'Mithrashakti' arrived at the Mattala Airport yesterday. 

The exercise 'Mithrashakti' is set to take place from 12 to 25 August 2024 at Maduru Oya. 

Upon arrival, the Indian Army personnel were warmly welcomed by the Director General Infantry, Major General Vajira Welagedara, Director of the Mithrashakti Military Exercise, Major General Dinesh Udugama, officials of the High Commission of India and Senior Officers.

The Indian contingent, comprising 17 Officers and 103 Other Ranks commanded by Colonel Ravindra Alawat, will engage in the exercise along with 18 Officers and 120 Other Ranks from the Sri Lanka Army representing the Gajaba Regiment.

This military exercise, conducted for the 10th consecutive time, first commenced in 2012 and has alternated between Sri Lanka and India over the years. It aims to enhance regional security through the friendship and shared experiences of the two nations.

The exercise is being conducted under the full supervision of the Commander of the Army, General Vikum Liyanage.
