Jakarta Police have begun investigations into the death of Managing Director of OPEX Holdings and billionaire businessman, 45 year old Onesh Subasinghe, whose body was found in a serviced apartment in Jakarta, Indonesia, a few days ago.

However, Police in Sri Lanka told the Daily Mirror that they have so far not received a complaint regarding the death by the victim’s family or relatives and no investigation was being carried out by the police here in Sri Lanka.
“We cannot initiate any investigation until we receive a formal complaint regarding the death,” Police Spokesman Nihal Thalduwa said.

When contacted a relative of his family told Daily Mirror that he did not wish to comment on the matter saying that a private burial would take place.

Meanwhile sources from Jakarta told Daily Mirror that the Indonesian law enforcement authorities were probing into the death of the Sri Lankan billionaire but they could not divulge the progress of the investigation to the media.    According to reports the 45-year-old businessman was on a leisure trip in Jakarta along with his Brazilian wife, his four-year-old daughter and another friend and they had booked a serviced apartment.    CCTV footage from the serviced apartment showed the wife of Mr. Subasinghe, the daughter and the unidentified female leaving the apartment on Tuesday after leaving a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the door and shortly after the management found Mr. Subasinghe’s body in the apartment.

Subasinghe had been in contact with his family in Colombo till last Tuesday (02) and since there was no contact thereafter, the family in Sri Lanka had contacted the apartment management and requested to know his whereabouts.

The management had broken into the apartment when there was no response from any of the guests inside and found. Mr. Subasinghe’s body in one of the rooms.    There is no immediate information available on the whereabouts of the victim’s wife, daughter or friend and it is suspected that they are not in Indonesia anymore. However this is yet to be officially confirmed.
