Many international and local taxi services are dominating the industry without paying a single rupee as tax to the Government, All-Island Three-Wheeler Drivers' Union (AITWDU) lamented.
AITWDU President Lalith Dharmasekera told the Daily Mirror that they had requested the Government to implement a system to regulate the service.
But the Government was not so keen to heed to their requests to check the background of those foreign companies before allowing to establish their service in the country," he said.
"We strove to implement many facilities for the people, but no one appreciated our effort. The facilities introduced by the International companies became highly popular among the local society even with the help of certain government officials," he said.
Therefore, the Association requests the Government to implement a system to protect the local three-wheeler taxi drivers and to regulate the service. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
