While admitting that he had been to the Anti-Corruption Secretariat three times, JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said yesterday he would join any camp to take action against fraud and corruption.
He told Parliament that he had provided all the information he had with regard to the incidents of fraud and corruption committed by various people.
“Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe proposed my name to Anti-Corruption Secretariat. I have been to the Secretariat three times and provided all the information I had. I will join any camp taking action against fraud and corruption. I will even provide information to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the sugar scam and other frauds and corruption if he wanted,” he said.
Speaking during the adjournment debate on the final report of the PCoI on political victimisation, MP Dissanayake said they would not give up the struggle against fraud and corruption in fear of threats to scrap their civic rights.
“I don’t care being scrapped of my civic rights. We will stand for the rights of the people at any cost. We will not stop our struggle against fraud and corruption,” he said.
Responding to the allegation that some officials of the Anti-Corruption Secretariat have been paid 1.2 million as salaries, he said about 38 officials who worked for the Secretariat have only been paid Rs. 33 million for three years. “An official has been paid an average of Rs. 28,000 as salaries per month. If any official has drawn a salary of Rs. 1.2 million as alleged, they can go to Court without making allegations,” he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
