In a statement, the department clarified that any letter from a suspect or prisoner is sent to the Commissioner General of Prisons under the strict supervision of the relevant Superintendent of Prisons, in accordance with prison rules and regulations.
"As far as this particular incident is concerned, the prison has not received any letter written by Johnston Fernando," the statement said.
It also noted that Johnston Fernando had informed the Prison Superintendent that he has no knowledge of the letter’s publication.
