Colombo, August 21 (Daily Mirror) - Due to the prevailing inclement weather conditions, the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued a landslide warning for the Colombo, Galle, Kalutara, Kegalle, Nuwara-Eliya and Ratnapura districts.

The public is requested to beware of the possibility of landslides, slope failures, rock falls, cut slope failures and ground subsidence and to be prepared to evacuate to a safe location if necessary.

According to the Department of Meteorology, heavy showers of about 75 mm will occur at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-Western Provinces, as well as in the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

Fairly strong winds of about 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, in the Northern, North-Central and North-Western Provinces and in the Hambantota district.

Even showers will occur in the Eastern, Uva and North-Central Provinces during the evening or night.

Therefore, the public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
