Colombo, Nov 03 (Daily Mirror) - The prisons authorities were ordered to provide special protection and medical treatment to former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte who was remanded by the Nugegoda magistrate over the possession of an illegally imported luxury vehicle.
Prisons spokesman Gamini Dissanayake said that Ratwatte has been transferred to the prison hospital. Notably, due to his previous position as Minister of Prisons, the magistrate included provisions for his special protection in the order.
Ratwatte was arrested in Katugastota by the Mirihana Police on October 31 and subsequently produced before the Acting Magistrate of Nugegoda that night. He was remanded till November 7.
The spokesman said that a health report from the prisons hospital highlighted the need for Ratwatte to receive treatment due to medical issues.
The report further said that he requires referral to a specialist for liver, lung and pancreas-related ailments.
Upon completion of his treatment, Ratwatte will return to prison based on the doctor's recommendations, the spokesman said.
