Some government and opposition MPs raised concerns that some media institutions had published their names as having purchased vehicles under the good governance government even though they had not purchased or used any such vehicle as reported.

Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said his name was mentioned in the media as having purchased a Benz car for Rs.400 million and said he had never used such a vehicle.

He said he had requested the CID to investigate this matter.

Former ministers Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Gayantha Karunathilake, Lucky Jayawardena, J.C. Alawathuwala, Mano Ganesan, Ranjith Aluvihare and Harin Fernando also pointed out that media institutions had reported that they had purchased vehicles for their use and added that they should be informed to clear their names.

JVP MP Nalinda Jayatissa said if the ministers had not used vehicles as claimed, it should be investigated as to who purchased the vehicles and was in possession of them.

House Leader Johnston Fernando said he only mentioned the names of ministries and not ministers.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said media institutions can be informed to correct the misinformation if any injustice was caused to the ministers. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
