MPs receive threats ahead of Presidential vote

Many Parliamentarians, including those from the ruling parties, have complained they have received threats from individuals, saying they would face consequences if they vote for Ranil Wickremesinghe in Wednesday's Presidential vote, the Daily Mirror learns.

The Parliamentarians said they had received threats from individuals on their social media accounts that they would face the brunt if their votes were cast for Wickremesinghe.

The Police Headquarters has already instructed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to launch an investigation on those publishing certain posts on social media threatening the parliamentarians.

Police said it has been observed that various posts are being published on social media platforms threatening parliamentarians if Wickremesinghe wins the Presidential vote on Wednesday.
