Former President Maithripala Sirisena today denied the statement made by former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando-regarding Former President- to the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the 2019 Easter Sunday Attack.

The Former President’s Private Secretary Sameera De Silva said in a statement that the allegations made by Fernando regarding former President Maithripala Sirisena at the above Commission were completely untrue and malicious.

Former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando informed the PCoI probing Easter Sunday attacks that former President Maithripala Sirisena on April 24, 2019, informed former IGP Pujith Jayasundara that if he accepted responsibility for the coordinated terror attacks on April 21, 2019, and resigned from his position, he would be given a pension and a position as an Ambassador in any country he wished to serve.

Mr Fernando added that President Sirisena had informed Jayasundara that he could be released from the Commission headed by Supreme Court Judge Vijith Malalgoda which investigated the causes and background for the coordinated terror attacks.

“If the former President Maithripala Sirisena has the opportunity to appear before the Commission in the near future, we hope to clarify the facts regarding all the relevant statements,” the Private Secretary’s statement said.
