The person who took the 16-year-old girl to a hotel is the Kalutara district leader of the Aragalaya, MP Rohitha Abeygunasekera said yesterday.
“We don’t know the real information as investigations are still being carried out on the incident. However, it has been revealed that the suspect in this case is a Kalutara District leader of the Aragalaya,” the MP said.
Others who had launched the Aragalaya have suffered retribution. The Kattadiya who was engaged in a ritual was killed as a result of lightning, one was knocked down by a train, another dies in a hospital, yet another person had gone insane, one suspect who was held in connection with the killing of MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala died in prison. They have suffered retribution in their present birth it self,” he added.
“People experienced issues last year as there was a shortage of fuel and there were power cuts. They took to the street as they had suffered. However the real issue is that some used this situation for personal gains,” he also said.
He said there have been 871 incidents on May 9, 2022 and some 115 MPs have been affected by it.
"It is important to investigate from where the funds came in for the aragalaya,” the MP stressed. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
